College 101 Course

We are pleased to announce that Bourne High School will again be providing an opportunity for students to enroll in a 3 credit Cape Cod Community College course free of charge starting January 31st, 2015.  College 101 is a theme-based seminar designed to help students develop the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in college, the world of work, and life. In this course, students will examine theories and practices associated with academic success.

To qualify, students must be 16 years old or older and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Classes will be held at Bourne High School on Saturday mornings from 9 AM - 12 PM starting on January 31, 2015 and running through May 2nd, 2015. Parents and students are encouraged to contact the guidance department for registration information at 508-759-0676.

FAFSA Day 2015

FAFSA Day Massachusetts, a College Goal Sunday Program, is a non-profit, volunteer driven program providing free assistance to students and families seeking to complete the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  If you have questions, please contact massinfo@fafsaday.org

Attention Seniors!!

College deadlines are fast approaching!  If you have not applied to college yet, but plan on doing so, please join us for the College Application Workshop this Thursday during Enrichment in the Library.  Passes are available in the guidance office.

Also keep in mind that there are schools that have January 1st deadlines--which means you need to have your ducks in a row BEFORE we leave for Winter Break!!  This means completed application, essay, SAT scores sent, AND letters of recommendation from counselors and teachers.

Mass Maritime Dual Enrollment

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy Dual Enrollment program provides qualified high school students the opportunity to take a transferable, introductory college course at no cost (except the purchase of a textbook). Courses offered this year include English Composition (3 credits), Chemistry (3.5 credits), and Introduction to Emergency Management (3 credits).  To qualify for dual enrollment, students must have greater than a 3.0 high school GPA (on a 4.0 scale), submit current transcripts, and be endorsed by their guidance counselor or school principal and parent/guardian.

Classes will be held from 6-9pm on Wednesday evenings, beginning on March 4th. Registration forms are attached here, and are also available on our at http://www.maritime.edu/index.cfm?pg=681

Financial Aid Information

Unfortunately, MEFA does not have the resources to support a Financial Aid Seminar at Bourne High School this year.  Please see the Powerpoint below from the seminar, and also check out the Financial Aid tab for more helpful handouts.  If you would still prefer to attend a seminar, there will be one at Barnstable High School on December 8th at 6:00 pm.

Scholarships Are Here!

Local scholarships are starting to pop up, so be on the lookout!  A running list of all available scholarships is available on our website under the "Scholarships" tab, as well as posted in the guidance office.  Some applications can be done online, all others are available for pickup in the filing cabinet in guidance.  There are a few with December deadlines fast approaching, so don't miss out!  Be sure to check back regularly as new ones are added weekly.
